The Plate Load Test (PLT) is an in-situ geotechnical field test used to determine the bearing capacity and settlement characteristics of soil at the proposed foundation level. It is one of the most reliable methods for evaluating soil behavior under actual loading conditions and is widely used in foundation design for buildings, bridges, industrial structures, roads, and infrastructure projects.
The test is performed by placing a rigid steel plate on the prepared ground surface or at the foundation depth and applying incremental loads through a hydraulic jack. The corresponding settlement of the plate is measured to assess the load-settlement relationship of the soil.
